Index Methodology

How we calculate, publish and administer the indexes.

What the indexes measure

The four indexes on our Market Data page track US one-year reserved rental prices for H100, H200, B200 and B300 GPUs. Values are expressed in US dollars per GPU-hour.

Each index uses a defined contract and reference GPU variant. Prices are adjusted to the reference contract and GPU variant using performance-based metrics, so differences in rental term or hardware performance do not distort the comparison.

How they are built

The indexes combine completed transactions with published neocloud list prices. Hyperscaler list prices are excluded. Eligible capacity is in US regions.

Transaction and list-price data are normalised to the reference GPU variant and contract term. The two components are blended, with the transaction weight determined by the number of eligible trades.

Each data point undergoes quality checks before inclusion in the index, and suspicious observations are removed. Daily data-quality checks support the integrity of the index.

Parameters are selected separately for each GPU index, based on what the observed data shows about how prices vary across the dimensions relevant to that chip.. Each index page sets out the specification and administration for that series.

Who administers what

Compute Desk is responsible for the index methodologies. General Index, an independent price reporting agency and benchmark administrator, calculates the H100 index daily under the IOSCO Principles and supports audits of that index. Compute Desk calculates and publishes the H200, B200 and B300 indexes.

The UK BMR and IOSCO statements for the General Index series apply to that series. They do not yet extend to the other three indexes listed here.

Publication and revisions

The indexes are published daily. The published US dollar value is the index level; percentage charts are display conversions.

Definitions

GPU-hour

One GPU rented for one hour.

Reserved

Capacity committed for a fixed term; these indexes use one year.

Neocloud

A specialist GPU cloud provider.

Settled transaction

A completed deal at an agreed price.

Market-clearing price

The price at which supply and demand meet during the assessment period.
